Another Business Bites the Dust

Today I learned that our local bakery may be finished.  Sigh....will we ever stop losing businesses in this town? A combination of things has contributed to this new loss:  closure for a few weeks to have new ovens installed, inability to get sufficient staff, and now a fire.  No confirmation yet that it will never reopen, but the word is out there.  I so hope this is just an ugly rumour. The grocery store bread here is so incredibly dreadful as to defy belief some days:  French baguettes so stale that the ends of most of the loaves have to be sawn off at home and thrown away the same day they are put out for purchase, and often little beads of white mold dot the tops of the loaves.......just one example. For this amazing treat I am expected to pay between three and five dollars a loaf.  So many of the groceries on the shelves here are not fit to eat.  It is criminal to expect anyone to ingest so much of what our stores sell.  Wizened moldy produce, dented tins of what have you; positively putrid stuff too often. The bakery was a little treat in the midst of a foodie wasteland.....so hoping it will reopen after all.

Too bad about the bakery! My guess is it'll be closed for a while till the insurance company is satisfied there was no foul play involved with the fire.
So, one more thing to stock up on when you're out of town. At least you have enough toilet paper on hand to have more room in the trunk!
