My newly 88 year old mother is an absolute wonder, tough as nails, the highest pain tolerance of anyone I have ever known!!
Several days ago she was down in the basement of their current complex, putting junk into the giant dumpster down there, when the huge lid fell down on her head!!! It knocked her new glasses clear across the room, (thankfully she retrieved them later and there wasn't so much as a scratch on them...wow!), gave her a goose egg the size of a small city on her forehead and gave her a deep cut on the cheek.
I don't know that many teeny, stress riddled, 88 year old city gals who would just pull a kleenex out of a pocket, wipe up the stream of blood, retrieve the glasses and head back upstairs...not even slightly disoriented, no fainting or puling or sobbing or moping or terror about possible serious injuries...no one but my own dear mom. The goose egg is getting smaller and less painful with the passing of the days and I am thanking God for that goose egg as Mom has no concussion to worry about. The butterfly bandage is healing her cut cheek nicely and the black eye has finally come out as of yesterday. Dad says she looks like she has been in a barroom brawl! Typical of mom she has not let it stop her from doing what she needs to do to finish getting ready for next week's move. After her accident she took an aspirin, "just in case", and continued on with the task at hand.
This woman, who can invent things to worry about that are not even possible on this earth, can handle pain and physical trauma like a trooper. She never ceases to amaze me!
