A happy surprise for today: our daughter in law was able to arrange to have today’s afternoon meeting on the phone from right here at the cabin. Since new guests are not booked in this evening we have permission to remain here for the day. Our son doesn’t have to be back at work until tomorrow morning. All of us were dreading having to set an alarm for this morning and racing about packing up, the drive home with the stress of possibly being tied up in traffic back in the city and having the worry of making the time deadline for the meeting. Today will now be much more relaxed and perhaps the kids will be able to return to the small lake they discovered yesterday so they can swim some more. I no longer have the hip mobility to swim, unfortunately.
Yesterday we had morning and evening deluges of rain, followed by baking sun. Such a pretty day, with raindrops glistening from the leaves and flowers in the front yard. Two deer graze regularly here, a doe and fawn. As bucolic as that scene is first thing in the morning over breakfast on the front porch, the growing deer population is spreading ticks and Lyme disease throughout the county at a rapid pace. However, I don’t think about that as I sit here in peace watching them enjoying fresh green shoots of grass.
An extra day in the woods watching the deer and getting the occasional burble from the Kill during rare breaks from the humming cicadas…luxury!
