What A Lovely Easter Sunday!

I woke up too late yesterday to attend the sunrise service near our home sponsored by our church, but as it turned out the cloud cover was so thick that the sunrise was pretty much invisible and the people there only knew it was happening because the cloud cover changed from dark grey to light grey.  They nearly froze in the wind....guess there was no need for me to be disappointed that we slept in long enough to miss attending.

About the time we started to prepare breakfast and get ready for the Resurrection service at church the power went off unexpectedly, but fortunately it was only for about a half hour and we had no trouble getting to church on time.  At the end of the service, as is the annual tradition at this church, any congregation member who wanted to was invited to join the choir to sing along with Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.  I stayed in the pew and sang from there quite happily rather than limping up to the front to wedge myself in between the many, many other congregants who are familiar enough with their singing parts and lyrics to join in.  Over half the people in attendance ended up with the choir and they did a bang up job.  What a joyous way to end a Resurrection service.

We spent the afternoon at home just resting, reading, napping, watching tv and doing pretty much nothing of great importance, before heading out to a friend's Easter dinner at the church.  She holds Easter dinners every year but this year invited far too many folk to fit into her tiny house.  What a great time we had. I believe there were 16 of us, we all brought various dishes to share.  We were able to have a decent visit with several church acquaintances that we don't get much chance to talk to on busy Sunday mornings, so that was a special treat.  There were green salads, a full turkey dinner...meat, potatoes, gravy, cranberries, peas and carrots stuffing....and several kinds of desserts: haroseth with ice cream, pumpkin and blueberry pies, whipping cream, hot cross buns....yummy!

We were absolutely stuffed full of food when we rolled home just after 8pm and found another happy update from Carol's family: Carol was able to walk with assistance from her bed to her wheelchair and then her son and his family took her on a "wheelchair adventure" around the hospital.  This morning we received a beautiful photo of Carol, those family members and her dear husband enjoying their Easter dinner together in her ward visiting room.  The kidneys need a little bit more prayer as they SLOWLY regain function and a decision will be made today or tomorrow as to whether or not one more session of dialysis would be helpful. Her heart and lungs have improved substantially and are holding steady thus far.  We are so grateful to God that he is touching our friend with his healing graces and we ask that we will be moved to continue to pray until she is as fully healed as possible.

Woke up this morning just prior to receiving a text from the dentist's office. There was a cancellation for late this morning, so I grabbed the now available appointment with great gratitude.  I arrived home a few minutes ago sporting the new permanent crown. The colour match is so close to perfect it is nearly unbelievable.  Anyone who looked in my mouth would be hard pressed to tell which tooth is the crown and which are the two original teeth on each side of it.  I am very happy.  Soon the bit of freezing will be completely gone and in 90 minutes I will try some soft lunch....leftovers that were sent home with us from last night's dinner. Yum!!

We have traced my husband's bit of tummy disturbance back to something he ate the day before this latest round of upsets began.  It is likely the result of eating some ground chicken that was a bit off as it turns out.  Hopefully he will continue to get over the episode that began calming down on Good Friday and is nearly finished it seems. Thank goodness!

Today the sun is shining and we are heading for a high of +2C. By the weekend we will be in the +14C to +19C for a couple of days with low plus temperatures even overnight!  There will be some rain and snow mid week, followed immediately by these "far too high for early April" temperatures, so I am hoping this is not indicative of a too hot summer starting by June.

My son has a birthday on Wednesday, but it will not be celebrated by himself and his wife until next week sometime:  on his actual birthday she is on her way to spend 5 days in Texas to continue her interview with a NYC playwright for a NYC arts magazine.  I think they planned to celebrate a bit either tonight or tomorrow, but we just got word that his boss is medically unable to take her scheduled work trip to Florida tomorrow to complete specs for a lighting project there, so she is throwing our son into the deep end by asking him to take the trip for her.  He leaves just after 7am tomorrow for a 3 hour flight south, then flies home the same night...another 3 hour flight.  So, on his birthday he will find himself wife-less and exhausted, BUT yesterday he woke up without the nearly constant migraine style headache, so we pray he will remain healthy for the Florida work adventure.  Our daughter in law still sounded rather stuffy on the phone yesterday but feels like her cold is finally in its end stages, so we pray that, with her trip to Texas immanent, she will not suffer a relapse.  Both of them have been slammed with respiratory issues all winter. Hopefully spring will bring better health.

I will leave you with a most beautiful operatic duet I received from a NYC friend this morning featuring the amazing contralto voice and conducting skills of Nathalie Stutmann:

By Handel from his opera Giulio Cesare.
