Despite the continued warm weather the overnight and early morning air has a chilly quality to it that I haven't felt since the first part of April. This morning at 6am I had to shut my bedroom window completely for almost the first time since mid May. There is a slight yellowish tinge on the horizon and up in the sky, even apart from the last wisps of forest fire smoke that dissipated overnight, which is barely discernable but indicates the season is changing. The "aura of the atmosphere" is visually heavier than it is mid summer. The deep green leaves are all ready turning yellow due to the lack of moisture that has plagued us for the past three months and those leaves are falling to fill the eavestroughs and street gutters. It actually began almost a month ago but now the leaves are turning at a remarkably rapid rate for the first of September. Fortunately for the farmers the autumn rains from 2016 gave the ground a good moisture base for their crops so there will be at least a half decent harvest. Next year's crop quality will depend on whether or not there is a large downfall of rain in October and early November before the ground freezes for the winter.
I love days like today. The sun is shining, the smoke is gone, the temperature at mid morning is still under +20C and the high for the day is only to be about +25C. It is a perfect day to go for a bit of a walk and get some more books from the book sale this morning and take a hike over to the grocery store this afternoon before my friend picks me up for dinner. May we have many more days like this one. Looks like tomorrow's walk to the street festival will be in similar wonderful weather. YAY!
